Recent Seminars
San Jose, Costa Rica
Two members of our AAI team recently participated in an innovative International Development Bank (IDB) initiative in Central America. John May and Jim Hunt presented a one-day training seminar for a newly formed angel organization in San Jose, Costa Rica. With a combination of power point slides, hand outs, DVD video, and case study exercises, the first of three workshops described the American structured angel group movement, reviewed organizational options, and focused on current impediments for entrepreneurs and private investors in this country of 4.5 million highly educated inhabitants. We were impressed with the host, MesoAmerica Foundation, and the evolving infrastructure for IT businesses (Intel has a strong presence in Costa Rica). Jim's background provided fertile ground for real world war stories and John discussed operational options from his prior research and Angel Capital Association experiences. It was a small step toward a more global reach for business angel development. However, with our partnership in London on the UK venture fund, we are developing strong bridges with other cultures as we expand intelligence about new ventures and the resources needed to expand our portfolio companies beyond our own borders.
